What comes to your mind when you hear the word crocodile? Scary? Cruel? Wild? Or Powerful? How about stupid? Perhaps, you never associate the word stupid with a crocodile, right? We always think crocodiles as wild, scary, mean, and powerful animals. But not stupid, right? Well, the story you are going to read is telling you about a stupid crocodile. It was tricked twice by a clever mouse deer.
A crocodile was lying by a river. He was so hungry. He had not eaten anything for two days. The crocodile had been waiting for his food. Yup, he liked to eat meats of goats, cows, deer, etc. Well, actually he liked to eat anything.
While the crocodile was waiting for his prey, a cow came.
“Aha!” the crocodile said. His mouth was watering. The cow was so fat. He could already imagine eating the delicious meat.
“I must think of a plan,” he said. “If I come closer to the cow, she will run away.”
“ Hmm… I have an idea.”
The crocodile planned to trick the cow. He hoped his plan would work.
The crocodile screamed, “Help.. Help… Please help me!”
The cow was looking around. She was looking for the source of scream.
The crocodile screamed louder, “Help me! Please help me!”
The cow finally knew where it is. She was running fast. When she saw the animal that screamed for help was a crocodile, she walked back…
“Please, don’t be afraid. Help me, please…”
“But you are crocodile. I have to be careful with you,” said the cow.
“But I’m harmless. I’m weak and there is nothing I can do. I cannot hurt you.”
“I don’t believe you!”
“Please… help me. You are the only one that can help me. If you don’t help me, I will die soon,” the crocodile began to cry.
The cow did not have the heart to see the mighty crocodile crying. She thought the crocodile must be in great pain. She began to feel sorry for him.
“How can I help you?” asked the cow.
“I need to go to the river but I’m too weak to walk. Would you please carry me?” begged the crocodile.
“What? Carry you? No! That is suicide!” yelled the cow.
“Like I said, I’m so weak and harmless. There’s nothing I can do. I need to drink now otherwise I will die soon.” The crocodile kept on crying.
The cow could not stand it anymore. She thought she had to help the crocodile.
“Okay, I will carry you. But remember! Once you are in the water, you have to get off immediately. Promise?”
“I promise,” said the crocodile. He secretly smiled. He was happy that part of his plan was working.
The cow bended her knees and later the crocodile jumped on her back. She slowly carried the crocodile to the river. When they reached the water, the cow said.
“Get off now,” asked the cow.
The crocodile slowly got off. However he immediately bit the cow’s leg.
“Hey! What are you doing?” asked the cow. She started to get panicked.
“I’m hungry. I want to eat you now,” said the crocodile.
“But you said you will not hurt me,” cried the cow. She felt very helpless.
“I lied to you,” said the crocodile still with his mouth biting the cow’s leg.
Suddenly a mouse deer passed by. He saw the cow and the crocodile were arguing. He felt there was something wrong.
“Hey, what’s wrong!” asked the mouse deer.
“The crocodile is cruel. I helped him instead he wants to eat me now!” cried the cow.
The mouse deer wanted to help the cow. He was thinking of an idea. He hoped it would work!
“Is that true, Crocodile?” asked the mouse deer.
“No!” The crocodile was lying. “The cow was so close to me so I grabbed her.”
“Sorry I don’t know who is lying here. I didn’t see the incident from the first place. Why don’t we repeat from the beginning?” asked the mouse deer.
“All right,” said the crocodile. He did not know that the mouse deer was thinking to trick him.
Both the cow and the crocodile were walking to the ground. The crocodile’s mouth was still biting the cow’s leg.
When they reached the ground, the mouse deer whispered to the cow.
“Kick the crocodile with your other leg and after that run fast. He cannot move fast on the ground,” said the mouse deer to the cow.
“Okay, I understand,” said the cow.
She kicked the crocodile with great power.
“Ouch!” screamed the crocodile. He opened his mouth. The cow made good use of it and ran away.
The crocodile tried to chase the cow and the mouse deer. However they were too fast for him to catch.
“Wait for my revenge, Mouse Deer!” yelled the crocodile. He was so upset he lost his meal.
